Finals are here.
It’s one of the best times of the season, the energy lifts, the games mean more, and the excitement across our venues is something special. For many of our players, this is what they’ve been building towards all season.
With that excitement, it’s important we stay grounded in what Eastside Knights stands for.
At the centre of everything, this is still about the kids.
They are here to have fun, to learn, to compete, and to grow. They are not professionals. They will make mistakes. They will have great moments and tough moments. Every single player out there is trying their best.
Our referees are not professionals. They are doing their best in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure.
Our coaches are giving their time and energy to support and develop players. Everyone involved is contributing to the game we all love.
Finals can bring emotion, but how we show up matters.
Let’s focus on:
- Encouraging effort over outcome
- Showing respect for all players, on both teams
- Celebrating great play, no matter who it comes from
- Supporting without criticism
Keeping perspective, a result does not define a player, a team, or a season
Win or lose, how we behave is remembered far longer than the scoreboard.
A few simple reminders for all of us:
- Let coaches coach
- Let referees referee
- Let spectators cheer
- If it isn’t kind, don’t say it
For our players: Good luck. Have fun. Play hard. Do your best.
For our coaches: Lead and coach in the spirit of the game. Create an environment where players can perform, learn and enjoy the moment.
For our spectators: Be loud, be proud, be positive. Support your team and respect the opposition.
After the game:
- Shake hands
- Acknowledge the effort of both teams
- Leave the game at the court, no blame game in the car
We are one village. Yes, we compete, but we compete to bring out the best in each other. That is what makes Eastside strong.
Let’s make these finals something we are all proud of, on and off the court.
Wishing all players, coaches and families a fantastic two weeks of finals.
Good luck to all our Knights clubs.
